Weekend Update

Friday evening, we met with a bunch of my family for dinner at Hometown Buffet. My older sister, Angel was in town for the evening. After dinner, my sister, Carrie, and I went to see The Visitor at the Art Theater. We both enjoyed the movie.

Saturday, we took the boys to Ambucs Park so Gareth could play.

I made banana bread and rice pudding this weekend that turned out way yummy.

Today, we went to Hessel Park to have a picnic and play in the sprinklers. It was a beautiful weekend with family. Too bad we did not get more done around the house and yard.

We managed to take family afternoon naps both on Saturday and Sunday....priceless! Good naps...like 2-3 hours long....ahhhhh...how nice.

Zane has been one pissed little boy! The milk factory production has slowed to a crawl.....he used to nurse 5-6 times over a 24 hour period. He is now getting 2 okay feedings. This happened fairly quickly over the past week. He pretty much refuses to drink from a bottle. I called the Breastfeeding Clinic, a wonderful resource in our community, to ask for tips and advice. We had been trying to give him Enfamil or Similac formula (free samples sent to us through the mail), they told us to try Nestle Goodstart brand - that it tends to be a little lighter tasting and some babies respond better to it. They said that if we want to try another type of bottle, that some babies respond well to the Dr. Brown's nipple. The consultant also said let him eat crackers before eating formula so he is thirsty. She also told me to watch for wet diapers to make sure he is getting enough liquids. Well...it has been a rough couple of nights. Like I said, we have one pissed lil' boy! When I try to feed him formula, if he is on my lap, he falls into my chest crying, trying to search for my breast. The couple of times a day when I do have enough milk to feed him, he takes his anger/frustration out on mommy by biting my nipple! OWWWW! Last night, he wakes up at 12:30 hungry, I have nothing to give him, so Brian gets up and feeds him some solids. It has been pretty distressing! The only thing that has worked is putting the warm formula in a cup and letting him drink it that way. He won't drink it from a sippy cup...a regular cup, with mom and dad' s help! He is getting some of it down this way and some of it just pours out onto his bib. But - he is getting some, so this is good. Poor kiddo - he wants mommy so badly and just does not understand.

We are getting a ton of strawberries! I took some down to our neighbors, Gayle, John, and Owen. They have given us so much of their hand me downs from Owen. We have been so grateful! They sent me home with a car seat that was barely used for Zaners to use. He should be switching over to it when he is 1 year old. I have a feeling that he will have no problem meeting the weight minimum of 20 pounds. The boys both have well baby appts in mid June.

I have my first pre-natal appts this week. Looking forward to getting the appts started again - the midwife team at Carle has been great.

A friend of mine swears by that Adriri (or adiri) bottle. I know the bfc had gotten one sample to check it out, but I don't know if they ever stocked them. They are pricey though. If you know someone else who wants to try them, I'd suggest sharing the shipping fee. My friend spent over $20 buying and shipping one to try. Logan is starting to use the Nuby sippy. I found one at Walmart that has handles. He really likes them. My supply is down due to the move. I've started pumping some for when I start orientation. Let's hope he takes it... otherwise we may start on cow's milk early. shhhh! ;) Good luck!
