Living with Less - Week 27, 28, 29, and 30

Objective: rid this house of 10 items each week for the year. Limit what goes in the landfill.
Money earned through this project: $336.00

Ok, another catch up post. I continue to actively purge and snap pics of the stuff. I just have not been taking the time to complete the post each week. Sorry. However, I get the feeling that not many people do NOT mind not seeing my stuff that I am discarding. lol it is more of a way to document my journey through this project than anything else.

The last couple of weeks, I have actually noticed a difference in the amount of stuff we have. There is less. Don't get me wrong - we still have lots of stuff and lots more to sort through, organize, and get rid of. However, I have noticed a difference. It was a nice feeling to feel less cluttered. I am looking forward to the last half of this year's project and continued downsizing of stuff!

I am already thinking of a project to keep me busy for next year. I have a couple of ideas. The first is taking a pic of myself every day for the year. Our family photographer did this project last year - I really enjoyed seeing the different ideas she came up with to keep it creative. Another idea I want to tackle is reading the entire Bible and offer my review/critique. I have read several parts of the Bible and am familiar with several verses. I have tried to start reading it before, but it never held my interest. I want to be able to say that I have read the entire book.
Another thing is I want a tattoo someday. It is on my bucket list. This will probably not happen next year, but it is something I want to do before I get too damn old. I want a tree, maybe a tree of life kind of thing. I have several examples I like saved in a computer file. One day I will do this. Any other cool ideas for a year long project?

I need 4 weeks worth of stuff = 40 items. Here goes!

Week 1:
an old, worn out book. went to garbage. I have discarded or burned several other books this past year that I have failed to document here. The kids are hard on their books. They have so many - several of them come from library book sales and yard sales, so are well read/worn already. I used to be so meticulous about taping them back together and saving them. I just don't have the time or desire for that now.

Not sure if old food really counts for this project, but I figured I would count this. It is 2 boxes of Fenugreek tea used when I was breastfeeding to increase milk production. Since I am no longer nursing, I don't like the flavor enough to keep these around for leisurely drinking. Garbage

bag of random plastic crap that ends up at the bottom of toy boxes. Most of these pieces are broken toy parts etc. There are more than 7 items in this bag to complete this weeks purge! Some recycled, most garbage.

Week 2 and 3: lots of baby girl clothes that Iris has outgrown. There are way more than 10 articles of clothing in each box. Going to Celina: fellow blogger/friend/purger of things/ playgroup momma who is having a baby girl in October.

Week 4: Thomas the Train bed sheets and some baby items. The sheets came to us as hand me downs. I tend to NOT like commercialized items and think Thomas the Train is incredible boring, so was happy just getting rid of these. The toys were seldom being played with. The plastic push toy/walker and the picnic table are taking up space. The kids don't sit in the table and the push toy seldom gets used since Iris is walking on her own. All these items were dropped off at Celina's to use in a garage sale- the donations will be used to help some people in another country build a well for water.

The cow print thing in the garbage bag is an old car seat that was a hand me down. We never used it and it got some mildew damage sitting out in the damp pole barn. The mildew stains did not come out after washing. What does one do with expired car seats? I sadly discarded it the garbage.

Can't thank you enough for the clothes and the donations to the garage sale!

My cousin is doing a picture a day for a year and it's kinda fun to see her everyday experiences as a college freshman. That's cool that you want to read the Bible. It's a lot to tackle the whole thing in a year (I've tried and it doesn't work for me to read that way). It also didn't work for me to read it in order. If you're more flexible, I'd suggest starting with the New Testament Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, John) or the book of Phillipians. I'm excited to see what you choose :)

I think I might keep up with PURGE. I also wondered the benefits of taking pictures of what comes INTO the house...that might be too much ;) I feel like I'm collecting a bunch of stuff again for our baby girl :\

Good job on purging! I am in cleaning house mode right now and I have found that the best thing to do right now is be very picky about what we bring into our home.

I decided recently that I am going to read Jane Eyre because it is supposed to be one of the most difficult books to read (vocab-wise). But the bible is a great read too! Even though I am not Christian, I think all writings have something to offer and teach.

Did you hear about Anne Rice quitting Christianity? I guess she wrote a blog about it.

Janelle: yeah, I had read about it. I am glad she had the courage to speak up.
