97/365: Expansion of Raspberry Patch
We had 2 areas of raspberries. 1 of those were just planted last year. Our other area was not thriving - think it may be too shaded, so we moved the old area and expanded the area that we had planted last year. We intended on moving 10 raspberry plants, but after digging up all the little extra guys that branch out from the main plant, we had around 25 new plants!!! We now have a large 4 row area that will have yummy raspberries later this year!
We are getting super excited about the fruit production. The last few years have been spent planting lots of fruit, nut, and berry plants. Last year, we started to get a small amount of production from these plants. This year, we are excited to see what else starts producing. In a few years, we will have so much fruit, we will have to increase preserving techniques and possibly selling stuff as we will not be able to eat it all ourselves!
Hello from Brian, Carla, Gareth, Zane, and Iris. We live in rural east central, IL on 10 acres. Brian works as a web programmer and Carla currently is a SAHM, used to do social work type stuff.
We have 2 sons, Gareth and Zane and 1 daughter, Iris. We have 4 cats and chickens, ducks, and guinea fowl.
This blog is mostly for friends and family to see what is happening in our lives and to serve as an online scrapbook. Come share in our adventures of raising 3 kids that were born within 2.5 years of each other and moving to the country as of June 2009 to live on 10 acres. Our plan is to fix up the old farm house, live in it a few years, and start building a new home further back on the property.
We are interested in gardening, beekeeping, sustainable living, attachment parenting, and secular humanism.
